Cape Town - South African baseball sensation Gift Ngoepe has left America and joined Australia’s Sydney Blue Sox.
The 28-year-old infielder previously played for Major League Baseball (MLB) outfits Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays.
Ngoepe made history in 2017 becoming the first ever African-born player to make the major leagues.
“We are very excited to have Gift join the club and share his talent and big league knowledge with everyone,” the Blue Sox posted on their official website.
Blue Sox manager Tony Harris added: "We are super excited to have Gift join us for this season. I have known him for many years and not only is he an amazing defender at shortstop, but I also expect him to be exciting at the plate. He is a quality person that really fits our culture and will quickly become a fan favourite. Having spent time at the major league level these past few years our fans will witness baseball at its highest with Gift this season!"
