Cape Town - Martin Binedell's Open Pool fifth place in the 100m rescue medley was the best individual South African performance on Thursday at the Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide, Australia.
Hectic storms forced the cancellation of the Youth Surf events and only a select number of beach disciplines were completed.
Team South Africa's youth squad struggled to make an impression on the beach and it proved as difficult for Team South Africa in the Open Pool Division.
Binedell, who competed for South Africa as a swimmer at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year in Australia, was closest to the podium.
He also combined with Johan Lourens for fourth place in the men's line throw.
