Cape Town - Martin Binedell's Open Pool fifth place in the 100m rescue medley was the best individual South African performance on Thursday at the Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide, Australia.

Hectic storms forced the cancellation of the Youth Surf events and only a select number of beach disciplines were completed.

Team South Africa's youth squad struggled to make an impression on the beach and it proved as difficult for Team South Africa in the Open Pool Division.

Binedell, who competed for South Africa as a swimmer at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year in Australia, was closest to the podium.

He also combined with Johan Lourens for fourth place in the men's line throw.

Selected SA results:

Beach Flags: Men: Daniel Jacobs joint-20th; Women: Tamryn McKie and Paige Horn joint-20th (eliminated in the first round)

Beach Sprint: Men (no male made the final); Women: Paige Horn 8th

Beach Relay: Men team 8th; Women team: Ally Chislett, Tamryn McKie, Sulinke van den Berg, Paige Horn 6th

200m Obstacle: Men: Johan Lourens 7th; Women: Kristin Bellinghan 13th, Carmel Billson 14th
