Los Angeles - US skier Lindsay Vonn, who captured her 57th career World Cup triumph last weekend in Switzerland, says in an interview published Thursday she has battled depression for years.
The 28-year-old Olympic gold medalist told People magazine in a story published online that she takes anti-depressant medication.
"Everything about my life seemed so perfect to people, but I struggle like everyone else," Vonn admitted.
Vonn said that at one stage in 2008, "I couldn't get out of bed anymore. I felt hopeless, empty, like a zombie."
Three-time World Cup season champion Vonn, who filed for divorce late last year from her long-time coach and manager Thomas Vonn, told the magazine she is happier now than she has been in a long time.
"I feel like I just needed to get everything off my chest," Vonn said.
"All the parts of my life are finally in sync. I accept who I am and I'm moving forward."
