Local bookmaker pays out over R1.5bn

Cape Town - South Africa’s largest online sports betting business, Sportingbet, has now paid out over R1.5 billion in winnings to registered users who have placed bets on their website.

Not surprisingly, this milestone was reached during the 2014 Soccer World Cup, which saw increased traffic across sports betting websites around the globe.

Sportingbet, which is a fully licensed and regulated sports betting operator in South Africa, has continually asserted their position as the technological leader in the local market. This included becoming the first South African sports betting brand to be approved by Apple to release a mobile betting application in their iTunes App Store.

“Users are able to conveniently place bets 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and across a variety of sporting events, all while participating in our best in class rewards programme” said Tyrone Dobbin, Managing Director of Sportingbet South Africa.

“Most importantly however, customers recognize Sportingbet as a trustworthy and credible online service - no surprise then that we have been able to pay out over one billion rand in winnings to them”.
