Sport24 survey results

Cape Town - Sport24, the sports website with the most South African readers, has asked its readers for guidance… and they have responded, with well over 7,000 readers taking part in an entertaining survey which has produced some very interesting results.

Over 20 questions were put to Sport24 readers in an easy-to-use online survey in October, with a R5,000 cash carrot dangled in front of readers’ noses as an extra incentive for taking part in the survey.

Questions ranged from simple personal details (age, sex, marital status), to online reading habits, to readers’ interests away from watching or reading about sport and then, of course some fun ‘would you rather’ questions.

Springbok captain John Smit emerged as the most popular sports person in the country – with most men even preferring him to FHM beauty Lee-Anne Liebenberg – and most readers also chose him as their No.1 dinner guest.

Of course, the fun stuff aside, the survey participants also revealed their feelings on the much talked-about quota system in South African sport, their plans for the 2010 Soccer World Cup and whether they prefer watching sport live or in the comfort of their own homes.

Sport24, the first-ever South Africa sports website to top 400,000 unique users in a single month, also quizzed their readers on what cars they drive, where they bank and, most importantly, how they access the internet – with some very interesting responses concerning their online habits at present.

Commenting on the resounding success of the survey, not to mention some of his readers’ quirky trends, Sport24 Publisher Andrew ‘Tank’ Lanning said: “Sport24 is a hard-hitting brand for real sports enthusiasts.

“But, at the same time, the website also has a fun side to it and we wanted to know more about our readers in order to stay on top of our game.”

Log on to Sport24 later this week to find out:

-    Why… Sport24 readers would rather save John Smit – and not the gorgeous Lee-Anne Liebenberg in a time of need.
-    Why… beer is still tops amongst SA sports fans – along with male grooming products.
-    Why… ‘mobile internet’ is the most popular way of getting online.
-    Why… quotas are still an issue for sports fans.
-    Why… readers prefer ‘regular’ exercise to that of the gym.
