More work needed to transform SA sport - minister

Cape Town - South Africa's Minister of Sport and Recreation Tokozile Xasa says much more work is needed to transform sport in the country.

Xasa was commenting after the latest report of the Eminent Persons Group on Transformation in Sport (EPG) was released in Pretoria on Monday.

Xasa acknowledged that there had been improvement in transformation in various sporting codes, but said “realistic targets” needed to be set “to enable us to move in the right direction”.

She added that intervention was needed in certain sporting codes.

“It’s not only about transformation numbers, but also about our commitment to nation building and social cohesion. Transformation in South Africa is non-negotiable. It has to take us where we want to be," Xasa said, as quoted by Netwerk24.
