Cape Town - South African Olympian Chad le Clos swam his way to two more gold medals on day two of the Mare Nostrum Canet in France on Thursday, as South Africa finished their day two tally with four medals.

South Africa picked up four medals (one gold, three silver) on day one of the French leg, and continued their momentum and build up to the Rio Olympics later this year.

According to SASCOC, Le Clos won gold in the 100m freestyle and 200m butterfly events, while Cameron van der Burgh touched in second and Jarred Crous picked up bronze.

Le Clos closed in on a victory margin of four seconds over Japan’s Kosuke Hagino, touching in at 1:54.82 in the 200m butterfly.

His second gold medal in the 100m freestyle was more of a stretch, as he hit the line at 49.02, clear of France’s Jeremy Stravius.

Olympian Cameron van der Burgh picked up silver again in the 50m breaststroke final, coming 26 seconds behind Brazilian Felipe Franca da Silva with a time of 27.44.

Jarred Crous, who also qualified for the Rio Olympics, took bronze in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:12.29, behind Russian winner Anton Chupkov.

Other South Africans who took part included Tatjana Schoenmaker, who came fifth in the women's 200m breaststroke, and Mariella Venter, who came seventh in the women's 100m breaststroke final.

The Mare Nostrum's French leg has concluded and now moves onto Barcelona (June 11-12).
