Le Clos on the right path to Rio

Cape Town - Chad le Clos is set to be the poster boy of the South African Olympic charge in Brazil this year and the 24-year-old believes he is well on course for another successful charge.

Le Clos is currently at the SA National Aquatic Championships in Durban where he is going about securing his qualifying times for Rio.

Tuesday - his birthday - was a success with his performances in the 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly having secured his participation in Rio in those events.

Le Clos is still eyeing a qualification time in the 100m butterfly as well as in the 4x200m freestyle relay alongside Myles Brown, Calvyn Justus and Sebastien Rousseau.

"It’s about qualifying. The times don’t have to be that fast … it’s just about getting through," Le Clos said on Tuesday, before turning his attention to the Games.

"I’m ready. It’s come so quick. If you can just be focused and really train hard, and always think about the Olympics in the back of your mind then you can achieve it. That’s what I’ve been doing."

Le Clos added that he was in good shape, with no injury niggles to report.

"I’m good," he said.

"Touch wood … everything has been fantastic. We just want to get the job done and progress through to the next stage."

The Olympics get underway from August 5 and end on August 21.
