GALLERY: Team SA at the Paralympic opening ceremony

Cape Town - The Paralympics were officially opened by Brazilian president Michel Temer on Wednesday night (Thursday morning SA time) at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Thousands of performers came together against a backdrop of music and colour, which included a somersaulting wheelchair in the two-hour spectacular.

Team South Africa walked into the arena with javelin star Zanele Situ waving the flag high, along with the other 44 athletes representing our nation.

But before South Africa entered the stadium, the team broke out into song and dance by singing Shosholoza - a similar to what happened at the Olympic Games last month.
