Many South Africans showed creative ways to keep on exercising at the height of the countrywide lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Initially, no exercising outside of the home was allowed as people were asked to stay indoors to stop the spread of the virus. That meant in order to get their workouts, South Africans took to exercising at their properties with some even clocking up marathon distances to stay fit.
For Cornel Taylor, exercising meant taking up a number of virtual challenges online. Cornel, who has lost 80 kilograms over the last year completes these challenges on a stationary bike at home.
But Cornel is using her latest virtual exercise venture, the legendary 774km walking trail in Spain, the Camino De Satiago, to raise funds for a cause close to her heart, Abba House Children's Home, run by SA Cares for Life.
"Both my children were adopted from Abba House through SA Cares for Life. In these tough times, I know that by taking on this challenge, I can raise funds to help make a difference in the lives of the kids that live there," said Cornel.
In between her work and family life, Cornel is hoping to finish the challenge in two to three months by cycling around 20 to 30 kilometres a day at home.
Sanet Fagan, the managing director of SA Cares for Life thanked Cornel for her efforts."Thank you Cornel for being so creative and doing this challenge for us and our babies and toddlers! Please support her and sponsor her," said Fagan.
Cornel is hoping to raise R50 000 with her efforts and is looking for sponsors, either to make a donation directly to SA Cares for Life or by sponsoring her an amount per kilometre completed.
