Cape Town - The Sun Met 2020 at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday delivered another memorable horseracing event. The prestigious occasion welcomed the crème-de-la-crème in society, boasting esteemed guests who were in attendance.
The 2020 edition of the event hosted a splendid cast of talent from media mogul and Face of the Sun Met, Bonang Matheba.
"Queen B" brought her signature beverage House of BNG as the Official Celebration Partner to the event. The immaculate MCC added sparkle to the day’s festivities as racegoers enjoyed a wide array of entertainment.
This year’s theme, African Luxury: Visionaries, heralded a new generation of creatives, influencers, and innovators to grab hold of the future. Attendees took ownership of the theme and interpreted it in their outfits donned at the historic event.
The red carpet was opened by Holly Rey who curated a special acoustic set to capture the theme in song and performance. She was joined by Miss South Africa Sasha-Lee Laurel Olivier, Precious the Planner, Liezel van der Westhuizen, Gert-Johan Coetzee, and Nandi Mbatha to name a few.
Not to be outdone by the entertainment at the event, winning horse One World took the R3 000 000 main race honours, bringing great joy to his jockey MJ Byleveld and trainer Vaughn Marshall. The celebration of their winning at the winner’s circle was made more special with Matheba and Sun International’s Chief Financial Officer, Anthony Leeming, handing over the well-deserved trophy.
The fashion marquee was abuzz the entire day with designers and fashionistas. Imprint ZA and Masa Mara opened the fashion show with their show-stopping African inspired designs whilst the headline designer, Palesa Mokubung, closed out the fashion during the day.
This year’s best dressed woman was awarded to Retha Lethoko who wore an emerald green gown designed by Imprint ZA. The best dressed man title was awarded to Shane Childs who donned a bright patterned suit inspired by textile driven African culture.
To end the exciting day, Courtnaé Paul brought a special DJ set to the official after-party marquee whilst Africa Is Not A Jungle featuring Black Coffee, Themba, and Da Capo, brought the whole crowd to their feet.
