Cape Town -
Another spectacular day was held in Cape Town as the inaugural R2 million Lanzerac Ready to Run Stakes presented by
Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) bolstered the Western Cape’s horse racing season
at Kenilworth Racecourse.
This prestigious event, which is the only and richest Ready To Run Sales Race in the Western Cape, has officially been crowned with a solid place on the South African racing calendar for years to come.
“Some of the country’s top thoroughbreds, purchased at the 2012 CTS Ready To Run Sale, clashed it out on the field in the main race,” says Michael Varney, National Marketing Manager of Phumelela Gaming & Leisure. Guests and punters were in on the action and excitement of the day while witnessing some of the most promising two year olds of the 2012/2013 Cape Season. In a very close finish, Captain America beat favourite Red Ray by half a stride, followed by Davyana in third place.
The event attracted a fine crowd including top celebrities, Nandi Mngoma, Siv Ngesi, Lee-Anne Summers, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Katlego Maboe and Cindy Nel donning their finest. Exclusive guests were treated to a day of equestrian excellence, sophistication, fine food and Lanzerac wines.
“This day was a great representation of the beautiful country we live in,” says Siv Ngesi, South African actor and comedian. “The eclectic mix of people, fine Lanzerac wines and exhilaration on the day was the perfect way to welcome the summer season in Cape Town - this is definitely an event to attend next year.”
