Cape Town - Who will be South Africa's Sports Star of the Year? The sports ministry has announced a list of various categories from which star athletes will be rewarded for their exceptional performances in 2013.

Itumeleng Khune (soccer), Chad le Clos (swimming), Lucas Sithole (wheelchair tennis), Hashim Amla (cricket) and Mapaseka Makhanya (athletics) are the five nominated for SA Sports Star of the Year.

"The awards are aimed at celebrating sporting excellence on and off the field. They are about contributing through social cohesion and nation building and inspiring a generation of high achievers in sport," said sports minister Fikile Mbalula.

The gala evening will take place at Sun City's Super Bowl on November 17.

Sports Star of the Year Nominees: Itumeleng Khune, Chad Le Clos, Lucas Sithole, Hashim Amla, Mapaseka Mapanya

Sportsman of the Year Nominees: Itumeleng Khune, Hashim Amla, Cameron van der Burgh

Sportswomen of the year Nominees: Mapaseka Makhanya, Lee-Anne Pace, Mandisa Williams

Team of the Year Nominees:
Springboks, Proteas, Kaizer Chiefs

Coach of the Year Nominees: Heyneke Meyer, Holgar Losch, Graham Hill

Federation of the Year Nominees: Cycling SA, SA Hockey, Swimming SA
