Rio - Spanish star Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he will be going to the Rio Olympics, but may not be competing in the singles competition due to his injured left wrist.
With the Games getting underway from August 5, Nadal is scheduled to play in the singles, mixed doubles with Garbine Muguruza and is also Spain's flag bearer during the opening ceremony.
The world number four was forced to pull out of the 2016 French Open in the fourth round and then did not play Wimbledon due to his wrist injury.
It is thought that the 30-year-old may now be forced to pull out of playing in the singles competition after he recently cancelled a scheduled practice with Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.
Though nothing has been officially confirmed on his Olympic singles participation but after weeks of training to rebuild his strength there is still doubt as to what capacity he will play for his country in Rio.
In other Olympic tennis news, Czech tennis player Jiri Vesely has become the latest player from his country to give Rio a miss.
He confirmed that chest pain has forced him not to travel to Brazil. "The doctor prescribed antibiotics for me for ten days, so it would be meaningless to go," Vesely told the CTK press agency.
His withdrawal means that Lukas Rosol will be the only Czech tennis player going to the Games after Tomas Berdych and women's No.2 Karolina Pliskova pulled out due to fears over the Zika virus.
