Team SA Rio outfits: Green & Gold or Ninja Turtle?

Cape Town - Team SA's outfits at the Rio Olympics have been panned from all quarters ... but do they really resemble Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

MUST READ: Mbalula acknowledges outcry over Team SA outfits

Social media has been scything of the tracksuits in particular that the SA contingent in Brazil have been asked to wear.

This comes after South African fans were embarrassed by the team’s opening ceremony apparel, where they donned tracksuits as opposed to other countries who wore blazers or traditional clothing.

SA Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, took to Twitter on Saturday to admit to sharing the same sentiments as the public, adding it should never happen again and that SA's athletes deserve better.

The golf bags carried by Jaco van Zyl and Brandon Stone's caddies have also come under fire for their "throw-back to the 1990s look" and not even having the names of the players emblazoned on them.

South African fans have been unanimous in their belief that the outfits have been nothing short of shocking, noting that they "all appear to be one size" - and several sizes too big!

One tweet even suggested that the tracksuit double silver medal winner Chad le Clos wore poolside in Rio bore a striking and uncanny resemblance to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
