Tandy surges into 50m freestyle final

Cape Town - Brad Tandy gave Team SA a reason to smile when he reached the final of the men's 50m freestyle in Rio on Thursday night (Friday morning in SA).

Tandy, swimming in the first semi-final, finished third in a time of 21:80.

When all was said and done, Tandy's time was the eighth-best - and just enough to qualify for the final.

France's defending champion Florent Manaudou posted the overall quickest time of 21:32.

The final will take place on Saturday at 03:44 (SA time).
