Cape Town - When 20-year-old Anaso Jobodwana raced alongside Usain Bolt in the final of the 200m sprint at the 2012 London Olympics, it was a dream come true for the largely unknown South African.
He finished 8th in that final, well off the pace, but the mere sight of seeing a South African taking on perhaps the greatest sprinter in history was enough to launch Jobodwana into the public eye.
He hasn't had it all his own way since then.
A hernia operation in 2014 meant that he missed the Commonwealth Games that year, while more recently a pelvic injury has limited his preparation for the Olympics.
The big shining light remains the bronze medal he won at the 2015 IAAF World Championships over 200m in Beijing.
Jobodwana finished behind Bolt and Justin Gatlin that day and in an instant proved that, when fit and in form, he can mix it up with the best in the world.
There was time when Jobodwana's participation in Rio was in serious doubt because of his injury, but he says he is on track to be ready for the Games even if he is short on race time.
Jobodwana is considered a medal prospect for South Africa, but he is probably not one of the athletes we expect to medal.
