Cape Town - South Africa distance runner Dominique Scott finished 21st in the women’s 10 000m final at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana won gold in 29:17.45, setting a new Olympic and world record in the process.
Kenya’s Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot won silver in 29:32.53, while another Ethiopian, Tirunesh Dibaba, won bronze in 29:42.56.

Meanwhile in other athletics events on Friday, South Africa’s Rynardt van Rensburg finished second (1:45.67) in the men’s 800m heats to qualify for the semi-finals, while Jacob Rozani finished a disappointing fifth in his heat in 1:49.79 to fall out.
