Cape Town - It was a tough Friday for South Africa's rowers as all teams missed out on medals in their respective Olympic finals in Rio de Janeiro.
In the men’s lightweight double sculls final, South Africa’s James Thompson and John Smith finished fourth in the 2 000m event in a time of 6:33.29.
Frenchmen Pierre Houin and Jeremie Azou won gold in a time of 6:30.70.

The SA duo of Kirsten McCann and Ursula Grobler disappointed in the women’s lightweight double sculls final when they finished fifth in a time of 7:11.26.
Ilse Paulis and Maaike Head of the Netherlands won gold in a time of 7:04.73.
Women’s lightweight double sculls final results
In the women's pair final, South Africa's Lee-Ann Persse and Kate Christowitz also finished fifth in a time of 7:28.50.
Great Britain's Helen Glover and Heather Stanning won gold in a time of 7:18.29.
In the men's four final, South Africa's Jake Green, Vincent Breet, Jonty Smith and David Hunt faded badly at the end of their race to also miss out on a podium spot.
They had to be content with a fourth spot finish - a time of 6:05.80.
Great Britain won gold in 5:58.61
