Cape Town - Russia's 11 Olympic boxers have all been cleared to compete at Rio 2016 by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), despite the nation's widespread doping scandal.
In the wake of revelations of state-sponsored doping across numerous sports, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled that the international federations for individual sports would decide whether to exclude Russian athletes, instead of issuing a blanket ban on all athletes from the country.
"AIBA has carried out an individual analysis of the anti-doping record of each of the 11 Russian boxers qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games," an AIBA statement said on Thursday.
"That process is now complete and confirmation has been received from the IOC Review Panel that the following 11 Russian boxers are eligible to compete at Rio 2016."
That has allowed for nine men and two women to compete for Russia at the upcoming Olympic games.
The Russian boxing team:
Vasilii Egorov (49kg), Misha Aloian (52kg), Vladimir Nikitin (56kg), Adlan Abdurashidov (60kg), Vitaly Dunaytsev (64kg), Andrey Zamkovoy (69kg), Artem Chebotarev (75kg), Petr Khamukov (81kg) and Evgeny Tishchenko (91kg), Anastassiia Beliakova (60kg) and Iaroslava Iakushina (75kg).
