Deodoro - Fiji will take on New Zealand in the first quarter-final of the Sevens at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday night.
The Blitzboks, meanwhile, will take on Australia in the last quarter-final.
New Zealand, who were stunned by Japan on the opening day, had further disappointment when they were beaten 21-19 by Great Britain in their final pool match on Wednesday.
It meant that their future in the tournament was left in Fiji's hands, and if the islanders had lost to the USA in their final pool game then the Kiwis would have been eliminated.
Fortunately for New Zealand, Fiji triumphed 24-19, meaning that the men in black progressed through to the quarters as one of the two best-placed teams to finish third in their pool.
They got a huge scare as the USA secured a bonus point, but in the end it was not enough for them to progress.
South Africa lost 12-5 to Australia in their final pool match on Wednesday, and they will have a chance to put that right later on.
South Africa's quarter-final tales place at 23:30 (SA time).
If South Africa win, they will play either Great Britain or Argentina in the semi-finals.
