Mbalula: More money needed for Olympic success

Cape Town - Sports minister Fikile Mbalula says South Africa will chase more medals at future Olympic Games, but he has asked for a larger budget to achieve the goal.

According to Netwerk24, Mbalula was speaking at the annual general meeting of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

Mbalula used Great Britain as an example and said South Africa would have to invest to achieve greater success at the Olympic Games.

Mbalula wants to do a presentation to government in an attempt to obtain a separate budget for Olympic sports.

South Africa notched 10 medals at last month’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The next Olympic Games will take place in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.
