The men's long jump final is a thriller, with South Africa's Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai chasing medals. The latter is never, really, in contention - but the former, yes. Manyonga leads over reigning champion Greg Rutherford deep into the six allocated attempts, but SILVER it is for him in the end. Celebrations around SA, for those who are awake and watching.

Here's the second semi-final in the men's 800 metres, where Rynardt van Rensburg is tucked in on the inside at third position at the halfway mark. He doesn't have the legs to maintain that spot, though, fading to fifth in the eight-man race. That's not enough to advance to the final.

The men's 10,000-metre concludes, with no medal for South Africa's Stephen Mokoka, who finishes 18th in a time of 27:54;57. Great Britain's Mo Farah takes gold in a time of 27:05;17, despite falling 11 minutes in. Paul Kipngetich Tanui of Kenya takes silver and Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia bronze.

Carina Horn good to go now, in the third and semi-final of the women's 100-metre. Unfortunately, a third-last finish - with a time of 11:20 - is nowhere close to securing her a berth in the final.

Here we go, then, in the second semi-final of the men's 400-metre, with Wayde van Niekerk vying for his maiden Olympic final.  He comes second to Trinidad and Tobago's Michael Cedinio. That, indeed, is enough to qualify for the final.

13 Aug 20:30

More from the track later, also in the wee hours of South Africa's sunday morning. Carina Horn will want to be at her best in the women's 100-metre semi-finals - and hopefully the final a couple of hours later. The men’s 10,000-metre final will bring high hopes for Stephen Mokoka, too. And, in the men's 800-metre, all SA eyes will be on Rynardt van Rensburg. Lest we forget the women's marathon, with Irvette van Blerk, Christine Kalmer, Lebo Phalula and set to battle it out.

13 Aug 20:25

Stafano Marcia's campaign continues with race nine and 10. Ranked 39th in the ninth, he will want substantially better in the 10th. Flanked by Portugal's Gustavo Lima and Sergey Komissarov of Russia, he's currently battling through the bottom half of the pack.

13 Aug 20:15

Wayde van Niekerk will be in action in the men's 400-metre semi-final at 1:30 SA time on Sunday morning. About 20 minutes later, medals will be up for grabs, as Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai participate in the men's long jump final.

13 Aug 20:13

The women's 400-metre heats see SA's Tsholofelo Thipe finish 40th overall - and Justin Palframan 51st. Times of 52:80 and 53:96 are nowhere near good enough for graduation to the semi-finals.

13 Aug 20:11

Akani Simbine is through to the men's 100-metre semi-final after finishing his heat in 10:14. Fellow South African Henricho Bruintjies, however, does not qualify on the back of a 10:33.

13 Aug 20:05

One and five over par, respectively, in the second round, Jaco van Zyl and Brandon Stone are not doing much better in the third. Stone is still five over, while van Zyl has dropped another shot.
