Nino Schurter of Switzerland, Jaroslav Kulhavy of the Czech Republic and Spain's Carlos Coloma Nicolas take gold, silver and bronze, respectively, in the men's cross country mountain biking. South Africa's Alan Hatherly finishes in 26th spot on the back of a time of 1:42;03 - eight minutes and 35 seconds after Schurter. So concludes our 16-day coverage of SA's Olympians. Cheers.

The 24-year-old James Reid won't finish the race. He's out of the men's cross country, due to a crash of sorts. All South African hopes on Alan Hatherly now.

About an hour into the race now, with three laps to go, and Alan Hatherly is in 30th position. James Reid, meanwhile, is about 44th in the 49-rider race.

Just under two laps into the gruelling men's cross country mountain biking now, with South Africa's James Reid in the fourth line and compatriot Alan Hatherly in the sixth. France's Julien Absalon hold the lead at the moment.

The wait for Lungile Gongqa is over, as he won't complete the race. An unwelcome 'DNF' next to his name - did not finish. We'll catch you later, for some cross country action in the men's mountain biking - high hopes for Alan Hatherly and James Reid.

Lusapho April cross the line in 22nd position, some six minutes and 40 seconds after the winner. No medal, but a superb effort regardless from the South African.

Eliud Kipoghe of Kenya takes gold in a time of 2:08;44, while Ethiopia's Feyisa Lilesa clinches silver and Galen Rupp of the US settles for bronze. We're still waiting for the three South Africans to cross the line.

Lusapho April keeping up with the frontrunners, more or less, but Sibusiso Nzima is pretty much spent, and slipping further down the field.

Just over halfway through now, a poignant juncture to update you on the three South Africans in action. Sibusiso Nzima is currently in fifth position, while countrymen Lusapho April and Lungile Gongqa 31st and 93, respectively.
