Komphela defends Khune selection at Rio

Rio - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Steve Komphela has jumped to the defence of goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune after criticism for his inclusion in the Rio Olympic team.

Khune was selected as an overage player in the under-23 national team representing the country at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Critics indicate that Jody February, who led the team through qualification for the tournament, deserves the number one jersey.

Khune contained Brazil in the goalless draw last week, but could not keep out Denmark in their 1-0 win on Sunday.

"We say nothing to critics, except to say 'bring it on'. It only makes us better," Komphela told the Sowetan.

"[Khune] has always done well. He has a great history. When things like these happen, they always tell you that when you face criticism it's meant to build you. He never responded. The only response is on the field."
