Cape Town - All Blacks code-hopper Sonny Bill Williams has been ruled out of the Rio Olympics Sevens with an Achilles injury.
Williams, who was looking to add a gold medal to his two Rugby World Cup titles, rugby league (NRL) title, Super Rugby winners medal and WBA International Heavyweight title - among others - hobbled off during New Zealand's shock opening defeat to minnows Japan in Rio.
Shortly after the match, the NZ Olympic Team tweeted that Williams has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament with a partial Achilles rupture.
Williams, 31, has been replaced by Sione Molia.
It remains uncertain at this stage how long Williams will be sidelined and whether or not he will be fit for the All Blacks Rugby Championship campaign starting against the Wallabies on Saturday, August 20.
