Horror Round 1 for star USA golf quartet

Cape Town - They promised big things, but failed spectacularly to deliver in Round 1 of the men's golf at the Rio Olympics.

WATCH: Justin Rose hits first Olympic hole-in-one

In Bubba Watson (world No 6), Rickie Fowler (No 8), Patrick Reed (No 14) and Matt Kuchar (No 20), the USA are the only country that boasts four golfers in the 60-man field at the Olympic Golf Course.

However, after Round 1, three of those stars were left happy there's no cut!

Kuchar flew the Stars and Stripes highest, posting a round of 2-under par, 69 and lies T11 with 54 holes remaining.

Reed was next best at 1-over par in a tie for 34th, followed by Watson on 2-over (T42).

Fowler had a day to forget, signing for a 4-over par 75 and lies T56.

Australia's Marcus Fraser leads the way by three shots after a superb 8-under, 63.
