Horror crash mars women's road race

Cape Town - A sickening crash with 11km remaining has marred the Rio Olympic women's cycling road race.

Dutch star Annemiek van Vleuten was leading when she went over her handlebars on the final descent.

She crashed heavily, head first into the pavement and hadn't moved as other riders went past with grave fears for her well-being.

Van Vleuten's team-mate Anna van der Breggen won the race in a tense sprint finish ahead of Sweden's Emma Johansson

Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini won the bronze medal.

South Africa's Ashleigh Moolman finished 10th.
