Hartley's Rio campaign draws to a close

Cape Town - South African canoeist, Bridgitte Hartley, has ended her Rio Olympic campaign with an eighth place finish in the consolation final of the Women's kayak single 500 metre sprint.

A bronze medalist in this event four years ago in London, Hartley failed to reach the same heights in Rio as she missed out on the final after a fifth place finish in her semi-final.

Hartley recorded a time of 2m01.89s in the B final, finishing over 3 seconds behind Britain's Rachel Cawthorn who claimed seventh place.

Russia's Elena Anyushina recorded victory in the consolation final with a time of 1m57.20s.

In the main final, Hungary's Danuta Kozak took the gold medal ahead of second-placed Dane Emma Jorgensen and New Zealand's Lisa Carrington, who claimed the bronze.
