Blitzboks beaten, will battle for bronze

Cape Town - Great Britain have beaten the Blitzboks 7-5 in a semi-final at the Sevens rugby tournament at the Rio Olympics.

They will now face Fiji in the gold medal match while the Blitzboks will face Japan for the bronze medal.

In a cagey affair, the Blitzboks scored the opening try through captain, Kyle Brown. Cecil Afrika just failed with his conversion attempt from the left-hand touchline.

Great Britain had a number of excellent chances on attack but the Blitzboks defence remained disciplined, scrambling back on occasions to stop some promising attacks.

South Africa could have added to their lead just before half-time but Kwagga Smith cut back inside despite a two man overlap.

The half-time score was 5-0.

Great Britain took the lead early in the second half with a converted try by speedster Dan Norton.

They held on to that lead for the remainder of the half partly to some excellent defence and partly to a number of mistakes by South Africa who try as they might, could not find a crucial score.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
