SA rowers into finals

London - The South African lightweight four rowing team has produced an outstanding effort to finish second in its semi-final heat.

The team of Lawrence Ndlovu, John Smith, Matthew Brittain and James Thomson performed admirably against a strong field to finish behind Denmark and ahead of Australia in their semi-final heat, progressing with a time of 6:04.21.

After coming second behind Switzerland in the first heat, the South African team produced another top-class performance, finishing strongly against highly-rated opposition.

They qualified with the fifth fastest time overall.

They will come up against Britain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia in the finals.

Ndlovu and his teammates came into the Olympics having won a silver medal at the World Cup regatta in Switzerland.
