SA struggles at Soweto Marathon

Cape Town - Ethiopian Sintayehu Legese Yinesu won the men's race at the Soweto Marathon for the second straight year on Sunday.

Yinesu finished in a time of 2:23:20 - about six minutes slower than his time in 2014 - but it was still enough to secure him the win ahead of Zimbabwean Mike Fokoroni and kenyan John Kirui in second and third respectively.

The first South African home was Nedbank's Africa Mailola in 9th.

It was a foreign affair in the women's race too, with Kenya's Harriet Chebore taking the honours in 2:49:52 while the Ethiopian duo of Amelework Fikadu Bosho and Selam Abere Alebachew rounded off the podium.

Thoriso Monare was the highest placed South African in 7th.
