Cape Town - Lifesaving South Africa is one of three nominees for South Africa's Sports Federation of the Year.

Lifesaving SA's president Dylan Tommy is also a finalist for Administrator of the Year.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation, Thulas Nxesi, confirmed the three nominees, which included a first ever nomination for Lifesaving South Africa.

The other two federations are Netball SA and Surfing SA.

The recognition comes in a year when General Tire also invested in the sport for the first time.

Lifesaving SA president Tommy is also a first time finalist nominee for Administrator of the Year, along with Michael Makhubela (Volleyball SA) and Sanelisiwe Kuzwayo (Cricket).

“It is such an honour to be nominated for the SA Sports Awards Federation of the Year and is a reward for the hard work put in by the organisation and its sportsmen and women,” said Tommy.

“Lifesaving plays a very important role in South African communities and is the only sport that is focused around saving lives. We are inspired by our lifeguards and sportsmen and women who continue to push themselves in the sport and who give of their time voluntarily to keep our beaches, pools and public swimming areas safe. With investment from our new national sponsor General Tire, we have been able to elevate the sport of lifesaving in our country, allowing LSA to proudly stand on the podium with Netball SA and Surfing SA.”

The awards will take place on Sunday, November, 12 at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg.
