Le Clos' dad pays up for brawl

Johannesburg - The father of Olympic champion Chad le Clos has paid R18 000 to settle an assault case, according to a report on the Sowetan website.

Bert le Clos had to pay damages and legal fees because of an assault at a bar in April 2010. The person allegedly assaulted was Durban chemist Richard Simpson.

The case was meant to be heard at the Pinetown Civil Court on Thursday but Simpson’s attorney, Craig Preston-Whyte said the matter had been settled.

Criminal charges were laid against Le Clos but he was not convicted. Simpson then filed a civil suit and obtained a default judgment against him last December.

Le Clos told the court he could not pay as he was unemployed and had no money of his own, according to the newspaper.

A warrant of execution was then obtained against his property, but Le Clos did not own any.
