WATCH | Tearful LeBron arrives in LA upon hearing of Kobe's death

Cape Town - Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was seen crying at the airport following the death of NBA great Kobe Bryant.

The five-time NBA Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist died in a helicopter crash along with nine others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianni.

Gianna was one of Bryant's four children with his wife Vanessa.

According to reports, the retired NBA star, 41, and Gianna were flying to a game his daughter was expected to play in when their helicopter crashed.

James returned to Los Angeles on Sunday following the Lakers 108-91 defeat against Philadelphia 76ers on the same day.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers forward recently overtook Kobe in the NBA's all-time points list.

His 27-point performance against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday last week was enough to move the 35-year-old up to third position (33 655) on the list moving Kobe (33 643) to fourth place.
