WADA suspends Moscow laboratory

Montreal  - The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) suspended Russia's tainted Moscow drug-testing laboratory on Wednesday.

The decision comes after the doping watchdog ruled last month that Moscow had falsified data from the laboratory which had been handed over to investigators earlier in 2019.

The laboratory had been effectively shuttered since the 2015 Russian doping scandal erupted but had been allowed to continue testing in relation to the Athlete Biological Passport program.

Wednesday's suspension prevents the laboratory from carrying out any work related to blood sample analysis from the biological passport program, WADA said.

WADA last month banned Russia for four years from participating in international events, including the Olympics and World Cup, over the country's doping scandal.

Russia has challenged the suspension and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to hear the case later this year.
