Three reasons to watch UFC on FOX 20

Cape Town - As another weekend approaches with it comes another big night of fights as the UFC touches down in Chicago for UFC on FOX 20.

The card takes place Saturday night inside a sold out United Center and it will be headlined by a women's bantamweight fight between Holly Holm and rising contender Valentina Shevchenko, while two of the worlds best 155-pounders in Edson Barboza and Gilbert Melendez will scrap in the co-main event of the evening.

Now if that wasn't enough to get tickle your tastebuds I give you three reasons as to why you should watch Saturday's card.

Holly Holm vs. Valentina Shevchenko

The nights main event is a very important one for the women's bantamweight division. These two devastating strikers will square off with the winner all but certain of a future title shot. Holm (10-1) is the divisions former champion who lost the title to Miesha Tate in March after shocking the world last November when she knocked out the only champion the division had ever known in Ronda Rousey. Holm has tasted defeat for the first time and will be looking to put the division and its new Queen Amanda Nunes on notice.

Shevchenko (12-2) has taken the UFC by storm since making her debut in December last year where she got the better of long time veteran Sarah Kaufman. The multiple time Muay-Thai champion showed great heart even in a loss to Amanda Nunes earlier this year and thanks to her performances and her striking credentials she gets the opportunity to dispatch of Holm and solidify herself as the No.1 contender.

If you are a fan of the stand up game then this fight is for you. The two women share 11 brutal KO wins between them and they both know what the other is capable of. Both are gunning for a shot at the title. For Holm it would be a chance to further cement her place as one the best in the sport and for Shevchenko a win over a former champion would do wonders for future title shot aspirations.

Felice Herrig

The main card kicks off with one of Chicago's own as Felice Herrig makes her return to cage after a year long lay off to face Hawaiian prospect Kailin Curran. Herrig (10-6) is a long time veteran in the fight game and was a member of the all female cast on 'The Ultimate Fighter' back in 2014. After a loss Paige VanZant back in April of 2015 Herrig took time off to regain the fire that made her one of the toughest strawweight fighters on the planet. While she is fighting at home the test stood in front of her comes in the form if 25-year old Hawaiian sensation Kailin Curran who plans on ruining Felices homecoming party.

Herrig holds wins over some of the worlds top fighters and knowing she is fighting an hour away from where she lives is sure to motivate her that little bit more. While in need of a win to keep her UFC record a winning one, Herrig will look to use her vast amount of experience to drag Curran into deep waters and drown her on fight night.

Eddie Wineland

Another fighter making their long anticipated return to the cage is former title challenger Eddie Wineland. Not seen since his July 2015 loss to Bryan Caraway, Wineland (21-11-1) is fighting for the third time in four outings in front of a Chicago crowd. The former WEC standout is the owner of 16 stoppage victories 11 of which came by way of knockout, making him a very exciting and must watch fighter.

With only 2 wins in his last 5 fights Wineland is looking to get back to his winning ways and start off a winning streak which may or may not end in a title shot. Win or lose Wineland has been in some memorable battles in the past so be sure not to miss him take on another exciting fighter in Frankie Saenz.
