Ryan Lochte set to tie the knot

Cape Town - American swimming superstar Ryan Lochte has popped the question to his former Playboy model girlfriend Kayla Rae Reid ... and she said YES!

Over the weekend, 12-time Olympic medalist Lochte shared the news by uploading a photo to Instagram.

Reid uploaded a similar photo to her Instagram page.

Lochte and Reid, who according to reports met on the Tinder dating app, started their relationship shortly after meeting at a Hollywood nightclub in January.

Since then, Reid has cheered Lochte on during Dancing With The Stars, and she also showed her support during Lochte's Rio Olympics scandal.

The 32-year-old was charged by Brazilian authorities with falsely reporting a crime and subsequently banned for 10 months.

Lochte has won a total of 39 world championship gold medals over short and long courses in addition to his six Olympic golds.

Cheers to the happy couple.

Memories forever!!! #thelochtes #LA
