Lausanne - Almost 80 per cent of venues in Rio de Janeiro have been completed for next August's Summer Games, organizing committee head Carlos Numan told the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday.
The IOC is holding its executive meeting in Switzerland and Numan was there to update them on Rio's progress, after worries about some construction projects in the last two years.
"Today we can say we are on the way," he told delegates, adding that concerns over water pollution for sailing and open water events would be fully addressed.
IOC vice-president Craig Reedie was pleased with the Rio organizing committee given Brazil has been hit by economic woes of late.
"There have been massive improvements in recent months. The venues have been delivered," he said.
