Northcutt picks McGregor to beat Aldo

Cape Town - Teenage superstar Sage Northcutt is the latest MMA star to put his faith in Irishmen Conor McGregor, accepting a somewhat bizarre wager posed to him be fellow UFC middleweight Sam Alvey on Alvey’s ‘Pound For Pound’ podcast earlier this week.

According to the MMALatestNews.com website, Northcutt, 19, with already one UFC win under his belt, was asked by co-host Jordan Killion of MMA Latest whether he was interested in the December 12 McGregor v Aldo fight.

“Yes sir, December 12, I’m excited to watch that.”

Sage then asked Alvey and Killion who they “would be rooting for”.

Alvey, who has been known to be heavily in support of Jose Aldo confirmed: “Aldo all day long. I’m also going for Weidman and Jacare (Sousa) at UFC 194”.

When the question was thrown back to Northcutt, the teenage sensation was sure with his pick of the Irishmen, stating: “I never like to say names but, McGregor has a different style. He’s appealing and he’s good for the sport. I’m just excited to see who wins, it’s a hard one to decide.”

Following this revelation that Alvey and Northcutt had their allegiances in opposing corners, Alvey decided to pose his fellow UFC colleague a small light-hearted wager.

“I’ll make you a bet Sage. If Aldo wins, you have to take a picture with your hair flat. If McGregor wins, I (Sam Alvey) have to take a picture with my hair all spiked up (Sage Northcutt style)”

The stakes might not be as high as some of the high-rolling bets taken online and in the Las Vegas casinos next weekend, but McGregor can take even more confidence in the knowledge that yet another big name in the sport, Sage Northcutt, is backing him.

Northcutt himself will be in action next week on December 10 at UFC Fight Night 80 where he will be taking on Cody Pfister. Northcutt will hope to continue his momentum back from UFC 192 where in his debut bout he recorded a stunning 57-second TKO victory over Francisco Trevino.

With McGregor and Northcutt two of the UFC’s youngest stars it’s entirely possible we will see both holding UFC Gold in the near future.
