Newcomer Gall hoping to fight UFC's CM Punk

Cape Town - Mickey Gall will fight for the UFC next month and if successful, he will square off with CM Punk later in the year.

Dana White’s show ‘Dana White looking for a fight’ is a series where the UFC president scouts the globe looking for new talent according to Nick Strickland of MMALatestNews.com.

Last season’s show was a success in discovering the supremely talented Sage Northcutt and this series is no different with the UFC president coming across Gall. The aim of this series was to discover a potential opponent for CM Punk who is waiting to make his much-anticipated debut in the UFC. After Gall registered his first professional win in his MMA career he instantly grabbed the microphone to call out Punk but did Gall know Dana White was going to be in attendance before his fight?

“I heard about a month before my fight he was going to be there so my plan was after my fight grab the microphone and call out CM Punk," said Gall.

Gall, now 24 years old, started training MMA when he was 16 and possesses a brown belt in BJJ. He says fighting Punk would be a mystery as he wouldn’t know what to expect from the former WWE star but says he will be ready.

"I usually like to watch videos of my opponent’s before we fight but with CM Punk it’s a mystery because nobody knows what to expect with him. There’s nothing of him online training or anything, but I will just prepare with the intentions of fighting the baddest guy on the planet and go in there and beat him up. I’m fully confident in my ability and I know I can go in there with anybody”.

If Gall and Punk do step into the octagon together it’s anticipated to be one of the biggest fights of the year largely due to Punk’s popularity in the WWE, but how will Gall cope with being involved in such a massive event?

”I think it works both ways. I usually get very nervous before a fight but I’m used to these nerves. I have experienced pre fight night nerves before stepping into the cage so it’s normal for me, he hasn’t. He has never experienced the build up to fighting in MMA so I believe I have the advantage there. In saying that he will have the advantage in dealing with all the cameras and media because he is used to that, whereas it will be all new for me.”

Gall said after fighting in front of Dana White he was confident he would get his fight with Punk.

”To be honest I’m pretty confident, I haven’t heard anything yet but I think things are happening. I don’t think they would have me on Dana’s show and getting publicity and then give the fight to someone else so I’m pretty confident.”

There has been no indication of a date for Punk to make his UFC debut so does Gall have any date in mind if this fight was to go ahead?

”I have heard a lot of people saying this fight might take place at UFC 200 which would be incredible, I will be 100% ready to go for July, nothing is certain yet but I’m hoping it will happen”.

Gall will fight Michael Jackson on February 6th and if successful, will go fight in the biggest fight of his life
