Holzken calls out McGregor

Cape Town - Another name can be added to the ever growing list of fighters who want a piece of the UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

According to the MMALatest.com website, the latest addition to the list is the Glory welterweight champion Nieky Holzken who is one of the world's most elite strikers.

A former K-1 and two-time European MuayThai champion the Dutch star also holds a perfect 10-0 professional boxing record on top of his jaw droppingly impressive kickboxing record which currently sits at 89-11, 1NC with 46 of those wins coming by way of TKO/KO.

Holzken like many combat athletes around the world has seen how the rumours of a possible fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are starting to garner more and more attention and on Monday took to his Twitter account to lay down a challenge of his own.

“If @FloydMayweather @TheNotoriousMMA is not gonna happen i want to fight Conor and i don't ask [for] 100 million #boxing”

Rumours of a Mayweather v McGregor showdown have been circulating for a while now and until recently, in the eyes of MMA fans anyway, was not getting much attention due to the fact that McGregor is under contract with the UFC/Zuffa and that it seemed to just be nothing more than another fantasy match-up that would never get made.

As for the $100 million that Holzken addresses, that is the amount of money that Mayweather was rumoured to have pocketed should the two ever do battle.

On Sunday in McGregor’s first interview since his fall out with the promotion over UFC 200 he too mentioned the $100 million pay day saying that if the fight between himself and Mayweather were to go ahead then he would want $100 million as well.

McGregor, like Holzken, has dabbled in boxing and was an All-Ireland youth champion, skills he displays in the Octagon today.

Holzken was last in action at Glory 29: Copenhagen last month where he beat Yoann Kongolo via unanimous decision.

The 32-year-old Dutch striker has defeated the who’s who of combat sports and is seemingly curious about what McGregor brings to the table.

While neither side could be reached for further comment the thought of these two savage strikers stand opposite one-another is enough to keep any fight fan up at night.
