Holm not ruling out Rousey rematch

Cape Town - According to Ronda Rousey it is not very likely she will be ready to fight anytime soon. Ronda told ESPN earlier this week that she is recovering from a mouth injury and may still be months away from from “eating an apple”.

Talks of a rematch between Rousey and Holly Holm in July 2016 are far from view according to Nick Strickland from MMALatestNews.com.

Holly Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez was in a meeting with UFC officials on Monday and has already been handed a proposal to get Holm on the July 9 card in the brand new Las Vegas Arena.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times Fresquez had the following to say, “I’m not sure Ronda will be ready for a July fight. She took a severe beating, and i don’t think it’s in her best interest to take the next fight so far. They told me she’s been ready and cleared, but…”

While the rematch with Rousey isn’t being completely ruled out he says he’d like Holly to make her first title defence against Miesha Tate who is a former Strikeforce champion and the current No. 1 contender.

Miesha Tate (17-5) was recently looked over as the next person to fight Rousey after a July 23 unanimous decision victory over Jessica Eye. A victory which all but secured Tate of a third fight against Rousey but unfortunately it was announced that Holm would overtake Tate and get the UFC 193 title fight. Previous to the Eye bout, Miesha went 4-0 after her UFC 168 loss to Rousey. Now with Ronda having lost to Holm things are looking good for the former Strikeforce champ.

“Holly’s used to staying active,” Fresquez added, “We’re from the old school, and we believe the No.1 contender is there for a reason. Tate deserves a shot, but it’s not for me to decide.”

Holm could be ready as early as February but according to the UFC there were NOT any open dates for her return prior to UFC 200 on July 9. “Holly’s not so much about the money as much as she wants to fight. We’d like to fight Miesha. We understand there are risks, but Holly’s a dominant champion, and she wants to fight the best. Right now, Miesha is the best.”
