Cape Town - Rio 2016 has been a good year for Team South Africa, as we ended with 17 medals - 12 short of the London 2012 Games.
At the end of the Rio Games, South Africa ended 22nd on the medal table with 7 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals.
South Africans received medals in three sporting codes: athletics, swimming and cycling.
Fanie van der Merwe carried the SA flag at the closing ceremony.
Overall, South Africa won 27 medals at Rio 2016 - 10 coming from the Olympic Games in August.
