Canelo Alvarez to fight Daniel Jacobs in Las Vegas

Las Vegas - Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs will meet on May 4 in a middleweight title unification fight in Las Vegas.

Promoters announced on Wednesday that Alvarez, the Mexican star who beat Gennady Golovkin in September, will fight Jacobs in a scheduled 12-round fight at the T-Mobile Arena to unify most of the major middleweight titles.

The fight will be aired on the streaming service DAZN, which recently signed Alvarez to a long-term deal.

Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 knockouts) is returning to the middleweight division after stepping up in weight on December 15, 2018 to stop Rocky Fielding in a 168-pound title bout.

He traditionally fights in Las Vegas over the Cinco de Mayo weekend, and this will be his fifth fight in the Strip arena that is home to the Golden Knights hockey team.

Jacobs, who lost a narrow decision to Golovkin in 2017, has won all three of his fights since, including a split decision in October 2018 over Sergiy Derevyanchenko for a vacant piece of the 160-pound title.

American Jacobs, who lives in Brooklyn, is 35-2 with 29 knockouts.
