Cape Town - Team South Africa could open their IAAF World Championships account with a gold and silver medal in the men's long jump on Saturday evening.

In Luvo Manyonga and Rushwal Samaai, South Africa possesses the bookmakers' top-two favourites for the gold medal.

Manyonga can be backed at 3/10 for the gold medal, while Samaai is joint second-favourite alongside American Jarrion Lawson at 6/1.

Manyonga is the reigning Olympic Games silver medalist, having finished as runner-up to American Jeff Henderson by a single centimetre in Rio de Janeiro last year.

Of note is that Henderson will not be competing in London this weekend.

Manyonga owns a personal best leap of 8.65m.

Samaai, meanwhile, took bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the gold medal at the 2016 African Championships in Durban.

Samaai's personal best is an impressive 8.49m.

The men's long jump final will be contested at 21:05 (SA time) on Saturday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
