Pretoria - Cabinet has called on all South Africans to support the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day this coming weekend.
"The Springboks will play Argentina, Bafana Bafana will take on Burkina Faso, and a South African masters football side will play Italy," acting Cabinet spokesperson Phumla Williams told journalists in Pretoria on Monday.
The media briefing follows Cabinet's fortnightly meeting on Wednesday last week.
The Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day is set to be held at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, August 17.
"All proceeds (from the event) will go to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital project," Williams said.
The sporting events at the stadium on Saturday would be followed that evening by a "star-studded" music concert, she said.
Cabinet continued to call on all South Africans to keep the ailing former president "in their thoughts and prayers as he responds to medical treatment".
On Sunday, the presidency announced that Mandela, 95, was slowly but steadily improving.
"The medical team also reiterated that although his health was improving steadily, Madiba still remained in a critical condition," spokesperson Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
The anti-apartheid icon has been critically ill in hospital for over two months. Monday marks his 66th day in hospital.
He was admitted to the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria on June 8 with a recurring lung infection.
