Cape Town - It was a bad day at the office for the SA swim team at the FINA World Championship in Budapest on Sunday with not one swimmer managing to progress through the heat stages.
In the 100m breaststroke, Brazil Olympics silver medal winner, Cameron van der Burgh did not start his heat. England's Adam Peaty set the best time over the distance, winning in 58.21.
In the 400m freestyle, Brent Szurdoki could only manage the 33rd best time overall (3.54.34) with Canada's Jeremy Bagshaw the fastest swimmer in the heats with 3:48.82.
Douglas Erasmus finished 10th in his 50m butterfly heat with Andrii Govorov of Ukraine stopping the clock in 22.92 for the fast time of the morning.
In the women's 400m freestyle, Kate Beavon, swimming in heat two, managed 8th place with a time of 4:20.82. The heat was won by Diana Duares of Portugal in 4:10.07.
Finally, the women's 4x100 Freestyle relay time finished last in their heat in a time of 3:57.83. Australia won the heat, clocking 3:35.18.
