Mother City loses out to Athens

DID YOU KNOW ... Cape Town bid for the 2004 Olympic Games that eventually were awarded to Athens in Greece.

Cape Town were knocked out in the penultimate round of voting (by Athens and Rome) having seen off the challenge from Stockholm and Beunos Aires.

While one remains confident the Games will be held on the African continent, in the mean time South Africans will have to be content with Durban hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
