Vingegaard takes charge at tragedy-hit Tour of Poland

Koscielisko - Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard won the sixth stage of the tragedy-hit Tour of Poland on Thursday and also inherited the overall lead after a sombre 160km run between Zakopane and Koscielsko.

Germany's Pascal Ackermann, who had led overnight, pulled out of the race to allow him to take part in the European championships which start in the Netherlands on Sunday.

The Tour of Poland concludes on Friday but will forever be associated with Belgian rider Bjorg Lambrecht who was killed after a fall on the third stage.

6th stage results:

1. Jonas Vingegaard (DEN/TJS) 4hr 07min 13sec, 2. Pavel Sivakov (RUS/INS) same time, 3. Jai Hindley (AUS/SUN) s.t., 4. Sergio Higuita (COL/EF1) 8, 5. Rafal Majka (PO/BOH) 10.

Overall standings:

1. Jonas Vingegaard (DEN/TJS) 22hr 13min 57sec, 2. Pavel Sivakov (RUS/INS) at 4, 3. Jai Hindley (AUS/SUN) 6, 4. Diego Ulissi (ITA/UAD) 17, 5. Sergio Higuita (COL/EF1) 18.
